Context
Google has many internal teams dedicated to experimenting and speculating about the future. The value of speculative design is not in the created object, but in the intriguing and inspiring debates it evokes.
In Vilnius Academy of Arts we were tasked with creating a furniture piece for a homeware brand. I chose Google.

Design value
As technology intrudes more and more into our lives, we seek realness, tangibility, friction. The digital world seems to disappear, and we return to simpler times, to nature. The interior merges with the environment and life resembles long-term camping.

Seed House is a speculative design project that explores how Google will look like in 24 years (i.e. 2046). Based on the company's design principles and its future perspective, a collection of 5 pieces of furniture and 5 interior variations were created for different living scenarios. One of those pieces of furniture, the Seed Chair, was made into a prototype.

Seed chair
Inspired by folding stools and log cabins, the Seed Chair is heavy and large and aims to bring more friction, more realness to life.
The simple geometric shape and minimal function makes the chair disappear and allows the person to experience life fully.
Seed Chair is made of pine logs and recycled synthetic elastic fabric.
